From January to June, the import of warm water shrimp exceeded 500k、tons, an increase of nearly 50%

Customs data show that from January to June, China's cumulative imports of warm water shrimp reached 502,699 tons, an increase of 49%, and the import value of about 2.84 billion US dollars, an increase of 29%.


The imported shrimp market in the first half of the year was mainly driven by Ecuador, which supplied more than 362,000 tons, an increase of 63% year-on-year. Ecuadorian white shrimp has further consolidated its position in the Chinese market, with a market share of nearly 70%.


India's shrimp imports are also on the rise, with sales of about 60,700 tonnes in the first half of the year, up 31% year-on-year. Argentina's imports of red shrimp rose 270% year-on-year to 17,700 tonnes.



In contrast, Vietnam and Thailand saw sharp declines in shrimp imports, with Vietnam's imports falling 75% year-on-year to 5,300 tonnes in the January-June period and Thailand's imports falling 25% year-on-year to around 10,000 tonnes.


In June, China imported 87,364 tons of warm-water shrimp, up 56% year-on-year, with an import value of about $501 million. Of these, Ecuadorian shrimp accounted for 60,125 tons, almost double the amount imported in the same period last year. In June, Ecuadorian shrimp accounted for 69 percent of China's imported shrimp market, with an average price of $5.35/kg.


In June, India's shrimp imports stood at 13,185 tonnes, up 24% year-on-year. Argentina's imports of red shrimp tripled to 2,806 tons.
