In the First Quarter, China's Warm-Water Shrimp Imports Exceeded 270,000 Tons

According to customs statistics, in the first quarter of 2023, China imported 274,479 tons of frozen warm-water shrimp products (including Argentine red shrimp), a substantial increase of 34% over the same period last year, and the import value reached US$1.44 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16%.


Among them, the import volume of imported frozen warm-water shrimp in March was about 105,687 tons, a year-on-year increase of 74%, setting a new high in single-month import volume. In March, the import price of frozen warm water shrimp was $5.50/kg, higher than the $5.33/kg in February.



In the first quarter, the trade volume of Ecuadorian white shrimp was 179,094 tons, a year-on-year increase of 43%. The average import price of Ecuadorian shrimp in March was $5.31/kg.


Indian shrimp imports were 25,769 tonnes, up 16% year-on-year. Argentine red shrimp imports totaled 6,952 tons, a sharp increase of 205% year-on-year. The imports of Saudi shrimp and Thai shrimp were 4,774 tons and 4,280 tons respectively, a year-on-year increase of 231% and 1%.


In addition, the import volume of cold-water shrimp in the first quarter was 14,846 tons, a year-on-year increase of 19%, and the import value was about 87 million US dollars.
